  • About Drew

I've dreamt it, defined it, pitched it, designed it, modeled it, built it, tested it, killed it, refreshed it, launched it, exited it, sold it, and advised others on it.

That’s meant working inside and alongside complex organizations, helping smart people cut through politics and ambiguity to make and ship real things. I’ve done it as a founder, a CEO, a CMO, a Head of Innovation Strategy, an entrepreneur-in-residence at Nike, and an executive embedded inside some of the largest companies in the world. Day-to-day, I lead product strategy, experience design, go-to-market execution, and new venture development for companies building products, platforms, and businesses that don’t yet exist.

I founded Citizen Inc., an award-winning product design firm in Portland, grew it to 80 people, over $100M in contracted work, 30 straight profitable quarters, and margins above 30%. Citizen was acquired by EY. Along the way, I led programs that generated over $5B in top-line growth for companies like AT&T, GM, Disney, Cigna, Intel, Adidas, and 40+ others. I hold 14 US patents.

I’ve been building with AI since before it had a marketing department. I patented cognitive ML messaging systems for AT&T, built Cigna’s anticipatory computing (Watson) health platform, designed AI-driven “Artificial Accountability” behavioral AI modeling at Nike, and shipped an industry-first proprietary AI engine for Rhubarb. The technology evolves. The approach stays the same: start with human behavior, then build the machine around it.

A thread through my work has been what I call “Make Good”: building profitable products that are genuinely good for people. That started with ViVi, a cancer patient intelligence platform I founded alongside LIVESTRONG. It continued with the National Geographic Defy Plastic Innovation Lab at R/GA in Australia, an accelerator helping startups tackle single-use plastics.

I’m in a sustained entrepreneurial groove right now. At the center of it is strongerKIDS.org, a nonprofit weekly resource that helps parents get kids off screens and back into the real world with simple, vetted activities drawn from real stories of parents who took risks that paid off. Each activity turns an unconventional yet positive moment into something other families can use to rebuild the strength that quietly went missing during childhood and to raise curious, confident, capable kids ready for the real world.

Rhubarb is the other end of that same thread: a Techstars-backed AI gardening platform my wife Whitney and I co-founded that helps people grow real food at home, now live on iOS and Android. Whitney runs the company as CEO. I led product strategy and AI model design from first sketch through launch and, after a long build, I’m shifting into an advisory role while the team scales what we started.

I don’t specialize in one industry. I’ve shipped across telecom, healthcare, media, sports, automotive, retail, fintech, and consumer electronics. The best product thinking comes from pattern recognition across many sectors, not deep knowledge of one. The breadth is the point.

I’m based in Bend, Oregon, after several years in Australia, and available for the right engagement. Whether that’s a CPO role, fractional strategy, contract work, advisory, or operating leadership for a portfolio company, I’m looking for where a long track record of building things can drive immediate impact. Equally happy leading the org or doing the work myself. Most people at this level can only offer you one.

The other stuff: Dual US–Australian citizen. Recipient of Australia’s Distinguished Talent Award for Innovation. When I’m not working, I’m surfing, backcountry skiing, growing food, packrafting, cycling the high desert, chasing art, or building something with my kids.
