I help companies build products and businesses that don't exist yet.

For 20+ years, I've worked at the intersection of strategy, design, and technology, helping global brands and startups turn ideas into products people actually use. I've done this as a founder, an executive, an entrepreneur-in-residence at Nike, and a hands-on strategist embedded inside some of the largest companies in the world.

What that looks like day to day: I lead vision exploration, product strategy, innovation programs, experience design, and go-to-market execution for companies building new products, platforms, and ventures.

I founded Citizen Inc. in Portland, grew it to 80 people, $100M+ in contracted work, and 30 straight profitable quarters. Citizen was acquired by Ernst & Young. Along the way, I led programs that generated over $5B in top-line growth for companies such as AT&T, Nike, Disney, Cigna, Intel, Adidas, and 40+ others. I hold 14 US patents.

I've been working with AI and predictive intelligence long before it had a marketing department. Patented cognitive ML messaging systems for AT&T starting in 2009. Built Cigna's anticipatory computing (Watson) health platform, which used predictive models to guide policyholders toward better outcomes. At Nike in 2016, I developed the concept of "artificial accountability," using AI-driven behavioral modeling to hold everyday athletes accountable and motivate through personalized cognitive histories. The through-line across 15 years of this work: technology is only as good as its understanding of human behavior.

I don't specialize in one industry. I've shipped across telecom, healthcare, media, sports, automotive, retail, fintech, and consumer electronics. The best product thinking comes from pattern recognition across many sectors, not deep knowledge of one.

My philosophy is straightforward: start with the human problem, then figure out what technology can do about it. Not the other way around. That approach has guided everything from building innovation labs (AT&T Foundry, Nike Innovation Accelerator, Intel Experience Foundry, +CitizenLab) to launching industry firsts like the first cashless airline cabin for AA, the first connected soccer ball for Adidas, the first live-interactive Oscars platform for Disney and the first multi-platform social media broadcast at the Winter Olympics for AT&T + NBC.

Most recently, my wife Whitney and I co-founded Rhubarb, a Techstars-backed AI gardening platform now live on iOS and Android. Whitney runs the company as CEO. I led product strategy and AI model design from concept through launch and am now transitioning to an advisory role.

I'm now based back in Bend, Oregon, after 7 years in Australia, and available for the right engagement. Whether that's a remote, global, fractional-strategy role, a contract, an advisory partnership, or operating leadership for a portfolio company, I'm looking for where 20 years of building things can drive immediate impact.

The other stuff: Dual US-Australian citizen. Distinguished Talent Visa for Innovation (Australia, 2020). When I'm not working, I'm surfing, backcountry skiing, growing food, cycling the high desert, or building something with my kids.
