The greatest compliment I experienced with our studios was the sincere appreciation from clients as to the atmosphere they experienced while onsite. At times we would find clients seeking refuge in our studios from their corporate workplace. As a recruiting tool, the studios were a magnet for talent. They oozed freedom of thought.
I designed the Citizen studios in Portland, Bend and Seattle with the simple intent of creating a working space that was alive, mobile and a physical extension of the digital work trapped on computer desktops.
The objective of individual workspaces contained within an open space is difficult yet was solved with the creation of multiple shared open, smart comfy areas that enticed conversation and collaboration.
I designed all original furniture that moved with people, work and teams. The artifacts incorporated old steel elements pulled together with glass, wheels, rope, velvet, galvanized steel and whiteboard laminates.
